The month started out with preparations being made for The Husband's birthday. Last year saw the glorious Spider-Man cake but rather than an elaborately shaped cake he chose to go for something a little more simple. Namely a pecan pie.
I had never made one before but as it had been my dad's favorite dessert we set out to obtain the recipes from my mom and shared the act of making a pie from scratch. I think we would both agree that it was a rousing success as far as first attempts go. :)
Between The Husband's birthday and my own one week later The In-Laws were incredibly generous and drove up to spend the day with us and celebrate. Delicious food was had by all and of course a trip to a fabulous bakery was a necessity.
Moving on we found ourselves rather suddenly creeping closer to my own birthday and wracking our brains the day before for something delectable to bake. We settled on a Brownie Cake with The Husband insisting we try our hand at turning it into 5 layers. And thus this creation was born:
Never fear, this recipe will be hitting the blog soon and it was just as delicious as it looks!
As some of you may know, this year marked the 50th Anniversary of the British television show Doctor Who. I stumbled upon the show three or four years ago and have been hooked ever since. The Husband discovered that Seattle's EMP Museum was hosting a Doctor Who Celebration and of course I had to go!
I had never been to anything like it before and would have been very content to simply sit in a corner and observe all the goings on. The many many people in costume, overhearing conversations discussing minute details, listening to panels delving into deep topics that may or may not actually be important aspects of the show at large, it was all an absolutely glorious evening!
Of course our November ended as most of yours did as well, with that holiday which brings family together over more food than could ever possibly be consumed in one sitting. We headed down to The In-Laws for the week and did in fact consume more food than we thought possible in one sitting with leftovers to spare. As The Husband's family are great appreciators of wine I had to try some and so sat with a little sherry glass so as to be able to sample what everyone else was drinking which were just as fantastic as you would expect them to be. Of course there was time spent playing games and doing a bit of shopping but mostly hanging around with family over good food and good wine and what better way to end a month is there than that?
All in all, I am enjoying the beginning of December and a sliver of hope to be less food focused (at least until Christmas) and begin working on getting some decorations up.
Happy holiday season to you all!
