The house is getting cozy, gifts are piling under the tree, Christmas letters have been sent, the wall is filling with those we've received, it's Christmas time and I love it! As I shared last week I've been trying to decorate while sticking to the budget. While the Christmas tree skirt was a pretty big failure in that way, I have come across a fantastic craft with which to decorate your walls or windows that was completely free for me! (Honestly, this happens so infrequently that many shouts of exclamation and excited running around gathering up supplies is incurred when it does.) I present you with...The Popsicle Sick Snowflakes!
A cozy nook full of food, friends, books, and crafts; a place to hide, to think, to find comfort, to explore.

Ruffle Christmas Tree Skirt
What do you do when you're newly married, newly relocated across the country, working hard to stay within budget, and it's that time of year when you're supposed to decorate everything? You scavenge the internet for DIY Christmas decorations of course! I thought I'd post this one up first as not all of you may have your trees up yet. I found this tutorial on Pinterest a while ago for a no-sew ruffle tree skirt and decided to alter it slightly. People who know me may not exactly say I'm a fan of ruffles and so I'm sure that it comes as just as much a shock to them as it does to me that this is the one I went with. (This was after lengthy google image and Pinterest searches for a non ruffly one of course!) Let's just start at the beginning, shall we?

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins
It's Fall. Well really it's now Winter but sometimes I like to pretend that it's still that perfect Fall where there's a chill in the air but it hasn't started slipping into Winter weather just yet and it's certainly not the apparent nine months of dreariness that is the North-West. But that's ok. I have a pick-me-up for that. A solution if you will.
For some reason pumpkin flavored things are forever stuck in my mind as a Fall thing, they are most certainly not for Winter. No sirree! So when searching for the perfect item to satisfy my constant chocolate craving and make it feel like fall Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins seemed to fit the bill quite nicely. I found a fantastic recipe in The America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book for Spiced Pumpkin Bread, inserted chocolate where it called for nuts and cranberries, followed their advice on turning a bread into a muffin (P.S. it's just baking them for half the time!), and voila!

Throw Pillows For The Diagonally Obsessed
The Husband and I recently had a couple of weddings to go to and as we were in the process of moving across the country I thought I'd crochet a set of throw pillows for each couple. Isn't this what sane people do? In the midst of trying to find a new home, leaving your job, saying goodbye to all your friends and family and knowing that you have weddings coming up decide to forego the registry in lieu of making things that take time. No? In my defense I figured the process of creating these pillows would give me something constant to focus on in light of all the new changes that apparently needed to happen. And yes, at one point I did ask The Husband if my one checked bag could be just yarn for fear of running out before the rest of our stuff arrived. Thankfully The Husband is awesome and keeps me in check when I go crazy so only the necessary yarn was carried on board and all non-essentials such as clothing and shampoo were checked.
On to the pillows!! |

Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig,...
In the spirit of Thanksgiving I am writing this from my Mom's living room as pies are being baked in the kitchen and 23 family members are preparing to make the venture to Virginia. Currently the immediate family is reveling in the small amount of calm before the storm. A storm that we grow more excited for with every waking minute, a storm of laughter, food, love, craziness, and loudness. I can't wait!
With a number of posts that could be written today I asked my sisters which they wanted to see. After going back and forth on whether or not a sappy post about Thanksgiving was something I wanted to do (did the first paragraph suffice?) they responded in unison that they wanted the Spider-Man Cake. So here it is:

Deep Dark Chocolate & Butterscotch Cookies
Recently, I found myself at my in-laws house with a craving for something chocolaty. As I didn't have my recipe box with the old standbys I thoroughly perused the many options on my Pinterest boards for inspiration and concluded that this recipe would most certainly do!
The intended final result picture of cookies on a plate does not exist as they didn't exactly last that long... |

Slip-Cover A Chair
What better way to kick off a blog I've been wanting to start for a while than discussing a project I spent years meaning to do and finally did a couple of months ago.
Here's what I started with. |
