June In Review

For many people June marks the end of school, the "real" beginning of summer, the start of relaxation and the start of busyness.  Our June was filled with fun and in a way just a simple warm-up for July, let's recap. :)

One of the constants throughout June was watching our herbs grow and even using some of the mint and oregano in dinner and drinks.  We did end up altering the planter's orientation slightly to allow for more light which has done wonders!

The Husband and I started off the month by running in our first 5K which we did quite successfully, thank you!

We've begun a small tradition of baking homemade bread every Sunday and chose water bagels for one such event.  They are deceptively easy to make and came out delicious!

I have been collecting chicken bones and bits of vegetables for a while now with the express purpose of attempting homemade chicken broth.  While it was a lengthy process it was by no means difficult and there will be a blog post the next time I make it.

Our wedding album was finally completed just before our first anniversary and it has been an absolute joy to be able to relive that day.

The Husband had bought tickets for us to see the view from the top of Smith Tower a while ago and we were just waiting for the right weather, June came out in full support!  The view was spectacular and you really could see everything!
We finished the month by celebrating our first wedding anniversary on the Oregon Coast at Depoe Bay which was a perfect little nook, not too touristy, and with some fantastic food.  As there is one main street approximately 4 blocks long directly opposite this view of the ocean.

The Husband surprised me with the most perfect "card" I never would have thought of!  Before we moved across the country we ended up having to eat our cake topper rather than save it for our anniversary as shipping it didn't make logical sense.  The Husband, knowing that that had upset me, plotted with my mom to have an exact replica made at the same bakery which he then picked up when we were in Virginia in May and brought back in his carry on and had been storing in his office's freezer for a month!  It was absolutely delicious and made all the more special by the effort and thoughtfulness put forth.

All in all I'd have to say it was a pretty fantastic June and I'm really looking forward to July!

Thanks for reading & happy summer!
